The third edition of the Casey’s Housing Policy Community Update is now available. This edition includes a summary of the results of the Housing Diversity Survey that will inform the review of the Casey Housing Diversity Statement to be completed in July 2012.
The City of Casey is currently reviewing its housing policies with a focus on providing more equitable and diverse options for housing in Casey. This review includes revising the Casey Housing Diversity Statement and preparing a Rooming House Policy. A Key Issues Paper on Rooming Houses has been prepared. Policy directions are currently being prepared.
Council is seeking community feedback to understand people's housing choices and whether residential development in Casey is meeting the community's needs and choices to assist in the review of Housing Diversity Statement and the new Rooming House Policy to be prepared by July 2012.

How has the 2011 Casey Housing Diversity Statement contributed to providing a greater range of housing types in new developments?
The Casey Housing Diversity Statement was adopted by Council in January 2011 to encourage the development industry to provide a range of housing types in new developments, particularly smaller homes with one or two bedrooms and homes that include accessible features, which are often costly to alter for a person who has limited or impaired mobility.

If you earned $500 of less per week, what type(s) of accommodation would you like to be able to access in Casey? What do you need to consider when choosing where to live?
Low income households are defined by those who earn $500 or less per week. It is near impossible for low income households to purchase a home in Casey and it is also particularly difficult to secure a rental property. Council would like to understand the priorities for accommodation for low income households in Casey and whether these needs are adequately provided for in the current housing market.

The City of Casey is currently preparing a Rooming House Policy. Council regulates planning, building and health requirements for rooming houses that operate in the municipality.
